Dish of the day
Dishwasher sales are on the up, but the bad news is that prices are still dropping. For years, manufacturers have spent vast amounts of time and money trying to convince consumers that dishwashers are a necessity, rather than a luxury. It now seems that all that hard work is finally beginning to pay off. According to Servis, in the UK, over half a million new dishwashers were sold during 1999 -- an impressive 55% of these were bought by first time buyers.
The company adds that 65% of new dishwashers were bought by 25-44 year olds and that there has been a gradual increase in the purchasers of dishwashers due to more women returning to work.Martin Rogers, Electrolux category director for dishwashing, says: "The improvement in the housing market has had a positive effect on the dishwashing market as build-in dishwashers are increasingly included as standard within new homes. The number of households in the UK owning a build-in dishwasher is set to rise from one in five households to one in three over the next five years."

A huge power surge destroyed all my electrical appliances. Who is to blame?
At around 11:30PM on January 23rd, 2007 as I was typing on my PC the lights began to flicker and my computer began turning on and off. The lights then became extremely bright followed by a booms outside then the lights dimmed so low it looked as if they were about to burn out. The house phone was on began to cut out and made a loud screeching sound and then...silence.
These strange events lasted for nearly 15 minutes when a knock at the front door got my attention. It was a fireman informing me to shut off my computer if I had one because of electrical problems that were occurring in the area. I immediately did so.It was not until the morning I discovered that my two TV's, all three cordless phones, a microwave, two alarm clocks, my entire computer, VCR/DVD, DVR/Cable Box had all been destroyed due to the massive power surge they endured. After surveying each and every unit I learned that all appliances in every apartment was damaged or destroyed.

How do Ultrasonic Cleaners work?
An ultrasonic cleaner is a metal container that has ceramic piezo transducers attached to the side or the bottom of the tank. These transducers convert one form of energy to another. They also change size when an electrical signal excites it. When the transducer is excited it increases in size and causes the side or the bottom of the container to move.
When an electrical generator emits a high frequency signal, the transducer offsets rarefaction and compression waves in the liquid. With this rarefaction cycle, the liquid is torn apart. Consequently a vacuum cavity is created in the liquid. The cavities fluctuate in size, but when the cavity reaches a certain size, it cannot retain its shape. When this happens, the cavity collapses, creating an extremely high temperature of 5,000 degrees Celsius (9,032 degrees Fahrenheit), and a jet of plasma hits the object in the container. Millions of these bubbles are created and collapsed every second.

Ultrasonic bubble dishwasher concept
Is there anything that sound waves cannot do? This concept ultrasonic bubble dishwasher isn't even the first ultrasonic dishwasher we've come across. But still, the fact that it's round, sleek, and bubble-shaped can only mean good things.I can get a handle behind the theory of how I imagine this ultrasonic dishwasher works: shake the dirt loose with sound waves, and maybe filter small particles while letting the larger ones sink to the bottom. Drop it in the water, let it float around, presto-cleano, no more dirty dishes. It even has LED indicator lights to let you know when it's done.
So, as we keep seeing new ways of doing things, technology keeps dropping these round little cleaners on us every few years. We already have those vacuum cleaner robots, which happen to be kind of bubble-shaped, or at least roundish.
For a concept piece, this is right up there with all the concepts I imagine taking over in the not-too-distant future. I know I can think of all sorts of daily chores that need bubble ultrasonic cleaner things--round or not. I know my hamper could certainly use some sort of magic cleaning device. Between my whole house and all the chores that pile up, I, for one, will anxiously be waiting for a whole army of them.

Houseneeds.com Reports ‘Shocking’ Rise in Electric Heater Sales
As Homeowners search for affordable sources of supplemental home heating, many are turning to Electric Heaters, Boilers and Tankless Water heaters. Waterbury, VT (Vocus/PRWEB ) July 31, 2008 -- As heating fuel costs continue to sky rocket, many homeowners are searching for supplemental heat sources as a way to decrease their consumption of heating oil. Pellet and wood stoves are selling briskly, in fact, they are starting to sell out in New England, months ahead of the fall heating season. Another concern is finding reliable sources of wood or pellets for the whole winter. Houseneeds.com, The Vermont based internet provider of energy efficient, environmentally friendly heating, cooling and ventilation products, has sold more Pellet and wood stoves in June and July then they sold all last heating season. A rather surprising big seller has been Electric heaters.
“Homeowners are attracted to electric heat because it’s quick and easy,” said Gary Johannesen, Director of Sales for Houseneeds. “If you look at the big picture, the cost of electricity is no longer so cost prohibitive when compared to the current cost of Heating Oil or Gas.”As sales for Oil fired boilers and furnaces plummet, electric units are selling faster than ever. According to Mr. Johannesen, “Houseneeds sales on electric units are up 25% from last year at this time.”
